Altinkum first for Women!

Women in Turkey (WIT) organisation proves a success

When women pack up and leave lock, stock and barrel for Turkey they think sunshine, a new life and new friends … but rarely do they think of the more serious side of life. This new organisation WIT has a website packed full of all the information that we take for granted at home … Where is the nearest Well Women Clinic.  A local GP that caters well for British women.  Teenage advisory clinic, local schools, Turkish shopping lessons and much more.  WIT www.wit-didim.com also holds regular meet-ups with guest speakers and offers support for all women in the area … This is just a superb idea and I wish the founders well.  The WIT has proved a roaring success in Altinkum with plans to spread mirror groups to Marmaris and Kusadasi.  Next meeting 29th May 2008.

Gazipasa Airport - progress?

Could we see just a 30 minute transfer for Alanya?

Apparently so … it has recently been announced that Tepe Akfen Airports Holding (TAV) have won the right to operate Gazipasa Airport near Alanya.  Investors have been keeping their eye on this spot for several years and property prices in the area rose in the first week this news was released!  It will certainly be a while before the Airport is able to take international flights … but hey … this is a great time to snap up your investment plot!  Mid 2008 is the expected operational date and this isn’t overly optimistic as passenger figures for Antalya Airport were actually more than Istanbul this year… Gazipasa is certainly needed!

This month saw the Uzumlu tea house brimming with property owners and locals who are worried about the proposed mini cement factory to be built in Koru Koy. A petition has been set up http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Uzumlu/ and the local committee is asking for any help on the matter.  Apparently the factory could affect an area up to 40 kms with dust and pollution.

Altinkum apartment competiton … 3% to charity

Fancy a gamble with a good cause?  The odds are attractive too with only 1000 tickets to be sold at £45 a shot.  The prize is a brand new 2 bedroom apartment in the golden sand resort of Altinkum.  What I like about this one is that 3% will be given to support the Macmillan Cancer relief charity - a shocking statistic is that one in three people will be diagnosed at sometime in their life with cancer. Only 72 days left to the grand draw … if you’re interested visit www.winahomeinthesun.com/charity.asp

They are mainly interested in areas close to Istanbul - possibly, Sile and Sapanca. Something snowy may also be on the cards - around Bolu and Abant. North of Izmir up to Canakkale will also come under camera.

Great Plug for Turkey!

Turkey voted 3rd in Top Twenty

Places to Buy in The Sun

Last night, I sat down to watch an hour-long Channel 4 TV special on the 20 Best Places to Buy in The Sun presented by overseas house hunting expert, Amanda Lamb.

As she started to count down through the countries, I couldn't wait to see which position Turkey earned. Using her system of 3 P's … Pounds, Practicality and Potential … Turkey soared up at the number three spot with only Cape Town and the Algarve in front.

Twinkling Turkey even beat other popular bargain-hunting grounds … Bulgaria, Croatia and Slovenia. The big boys Florida, Costa Del Sol and Tuscany didn't get a look in … coming in the last ten!

Even though Turkey didn't hit the number one spot (which I think she deserves), she certainly shone as the hottest country to buy in, when Miss Lamb said Turkey had 'unparalleled investment opportunity'. Now that's a quote worth remembering!
